West Sound Academy School Closure Policy

If local public schools close, WSA will be closed.

West Sound Academy follows the winter weather decisions of North Kitsap School District (NKSD) and Bainbridge Island School District (BISD) with reference to school closures due to inclement weather or unsafe driving conditions.

If public schools delay for 2 hours, WSA will have a 10 a.m. start time.

West Sound Academy will trigger Parent Alert through RenWeb in the event of a school closure or delay, so it is important for parents to stay close to the phones. Parents will receive a text message and email through RenWeb Parent Alert. Parents should be sure to update any changes to phone number(s) in RenWeb or let the office staff know so that they can update the account information.

A reminder:  parents may pick up their children anytime during the day if they are concerned about being able to transport everyone in their family home safely. Since West Sound Academy families come from many different communities with varying road and driving conditions, parents should not hesitate to stay home or pick up early from school to ensure the safety of their family.

Anytime snow falls heavily during the school day, parents should stay close to their cell phones or home phones in case school needs to be dismissed early. In this circumstance, parents would be notified of the early dismissal and asked to come pick up their children.

WSA Emergency Information & Practices This flyer gives WSA policies on school closures or late starts due to emergency conditions.

Emergency Student Reunification Plan  The Emergency Student Reunification Plan spells out WSA’s practices should there be a lockdown or major emergent event such as an earthquake at the school. It is vital that parents do not overwhelm our phone lines or put students at risk with multiple phone calls to their cell phones. This document clearly explains what to do as a parent in these situations so keeping a copy on the hard drive of your computer and a printed copy on hand is recommended.
