Current Employment Opportunities at West Sound Academy:

French Teacher

West Sound Academy is seeking a part-time French teacher for upper school and middle school.  This French teacher will join a faculty and administration of 20 and will report to the Head of School. Responsibilities include planning and delivering French curriculum to small class sizes with an average ratio of 9:1. Duties include:

  • Classroom instruction, with an emphasis on building oral proficiency, promoting students’ ability to read and write in the language, and exploring the culture and history of the French-speaking world;
  • Written evaluations of students two times during the year combined with frequent communication to parents via email or phone;
  • Conferences with students and colleagues two times per year;
  • Active collaboration with other faculty within the Foreign Language and other departments;
  • Attending department and faculty meetings and events as requested;
  • Development or collaboration with other teachers on the implementation of a three week Jan Term course of focused study based on the teacher’s interests and experience;
  • Two overnight, multi-day field trips (fall and spring) per year;
  • Active participation in the life of the school community.
  • Successful candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in foreign language or a related field and should possess native or near-native proficiency in both French and English. Candidates must have experience teaching French in an upper school or late middle-school level. Lastly, the ideal candidate will have experience living in a French-speaking country; and be computer literate.
