Nellie Miller Baker - Head of School
Nellie came to Washington in 1998 to work with Dr. Frodel and Academy's Board of Trustees to open the school. She was very interested in the founding of a school whose mission was "to ennoble the human spirit" through both academics and arts. A strong proponent of small classes, experienced in performance-based education, and intrigued with developing an integrated, multi-aged curriculum, she is dedicated to the founding principles of West Sound Academy.
"Learning is not easily contained. It occurs in the dirt, at the woodshop, on the computer. It happens when buried in books, or wielding a crowbar deep in an old barn. The realm of education should seep from classroom walls and encompass the world."
