Students participate in their community by volunteering fifteen
hours to a non-profit organization. In addition they conduct all-school
projects such as re-establishing native flora where an area has
been altered by invasive plants.
Our service program enhances student's education by joining what
they learn in the classroom with actual experience. Through these
experiences they are exposed to societal inadequacies and see that
they have the skill and the opportunity to remedy them. This helps
them know how to get things done, bolsters self-confidence, and
not only prepares them for future career work, but also for their
role as a democratic citizen.
As individuals, WSA students have, among many other projects:
- Gathered books for a local hospital
- Assisted Helpline
- Worked in a homeless shelter
- Participated in National Park Trail clean-ups
- Knitted caps for hospital babies
- Created The Giving Garden, an organic garden to grow vegetables
for local food banks
- Analyzed water quality of Liberty Bay in Poulsbo
