Music Education
Music
Music
education involves the integration of traditional performance ensembles
with new technologies to help mold and develop lifelong music skills
in every student. A piano lab is used to develop fundamental skills
such as ear training, notation and keyboard fluency, which are then
brought to the performance ensemble.
Exploratory Music provides students with an opportunity to learn
many aspects of music. In this class the student will listen and
learn about the music from the past and present. Each student will
also learn basic music theory and keyboarding skills. As a class
students will learn to play at least two instruments, giving them
the foundation to choose which instrument best expresses their musical
voice. After students have chosen their medium for expression, they
are encouraged to interpret music beyond the written notes to create
an an aesthetically pleasing experience.
In Level I the music student grows as a musician, technically as
well as expressively. Skills such as music theory and ensemble playing
are used daily and applied to performance preparation. Every few
weeks the students perform for each other and as a class, helping
the student enjoy and be comfortable expressing themselves through
music.
Instrumental music is designed for our advancing musician. In this
class students continue to develop their skills in music theory
and ensemble playing. The students will play in whole class ensembles,
smaller groups as well as solo playing. Music performed will represent
a variety of styles and genres. In class student recitals continue
as an opportunity to perform and listen to many styles of music.
