Dramatic Arts
These courses explore the principles of stagecraft: blocking, movement, dialogue, character development and script analysis. The students participate in many small scenes, both assigned and self-created.
They work with monologue and multiple partners and are required to attend two live performances and write an analysis of one. Our focus is one of instilling the joy of dramatic presentation, mastering the fundamentals of theater, and progressing to a mature understanding of dramatic arts.
As students progress, they explore the internal aspects of acting.
They interpret character through the relationships of past history,
script interpretations and the process of scene study. In addition,
they will read Uta Hagen's Respect for Acting, and chart
emotional and physical observations about specific places in time
and space. The students will explore sensory exercises to reacquaint
them with the physical world they inhabit. They will also participate
in at least one dramatic performance at the school.
