West Sound Academy depends on the gracious involvement of its parents in the life of the community and it is an expectation that parents will be involved at a level of their student’s WSA experience that is appropriate and conducive to the parents’ schedule.
Some opportunities for involvement are:
Class Parent – The primary objective of the class parent is to initiate or facilitate class activities outside of school such as a day at the beach, a movie night, bowling or other class bonding and social activities.
Auction Committee – The auction is an exciting annual fundraising event that requires many hands. Roles include procurement, dessert dash, set-up, student volunteer coordination, invitations, newsletter, etc. To join in the fun, please contact Elizabeth Butler.
Trip Driver or Chaperone – Some of our June TREC trips require parent drivers and chaperones to participate. If you are interested in joining a trip, please contact Barrie Hillman. Chaperones are required to complete a background check through the school.
Social Events – WSA’s student run social committee plans many social events each year including two formal dances. This is a great way to help out by helping to chaperone, decorate and clean up from these events. Please contact Lisa Gsellman at any time if you are interested.
Club Leader – Some of WSA’s clubs are led by parents based on their own experiences and interests. Of particular interest to students are clubs involving technology, sports, pop culture and art. To propose a club, please contact Barrie Hillman. Club leaders are required to complete a background check through the school.
Board Committee – If you have an interest in governance, development, curriculum or community building, you can be considered for participation on a board committee depending on vacancies. Committees usually meet once per quarter and committee members do not attend board meetings unless they are already a board member. For more information, please contact Barrie Hillman.
Teacher & Staff Appreciation – Coordinating efforts to show appreciation for faculty and staff through a special lunch or similar gestures is a great way to say thank you. Contact Angie Gangi if you would like to be part of this effort.
